The Devil Makes Three Asheville Concert reviews
show was fun, but not what i expected
I've attended The Devil Makes Three for the past five or six years annually. It's a tradition my boyfriend and I cherish. This year, however, was somewhat underwhelming. While accustomed to seeing TDMT at Jones Beach, my disappointment this time stemmed more from the show than the venue. The Mohegan Sun Arena pleasantly surprised me with its cozy size, creating a more intimate atmosphere compared to larger venues like Madison Square Garden (I'll be back for more shows at Mohegan Sun!). What left me feeling unsatisfied was the format of the performances. Instead of each band playing a full set, they rotated through shorter sets, with each band performing only one or two songs before switching out. Although each band had its own strengths, the varying vibes and abrupt transitions between mini-sets left me feeling disconnected. Furthermore, I only heard around 6 The Devil Makes Three songs, with the remainder being covers (often featuring all three bands 'jamming' together before moving on to the next mini-set). Overall, I wished the 'Traveling Circus' had stuck to a simpler approach. A friend aptly described the show as somewhat "self-indulgent." While the artists likely had a blast, I believe the fans missed out on some of the enjoyment.
